The Work

I am interested in exploring the relationship between iconic images of people, places, objects and how quickly they become obsolete. When they were new and relevant to the world they captured the imagination before burning out into a feeling of nostalgia for their time and place in history. Inspirational, aspirational and sometimes dangerous, these icons are robbed of their impact and relevance with the passage of time.

The use of oil paint seems appropriate to the subject matter considering how it was once considered the iconic medium of art, whilst now it sits alongside a vast array of diverse and valid methods of expression. I feel this serves to heighten the sense of lapsed greatness of the images I am currently working on.
